From Renting to Owning: Investing in the Future

For Christopher Ross, owner of CARoss Transport LLC in Vallonia, Indiana, owning his own hopper trailer didn’t seem like a realistic option.

CARoss Transport specializes in agricultural logistics and hauling, using hopper bottom equipment to move bulk commodities. The business had been renting hopper bottoms on a percentage basis when a friend encouraged Christopher to contact Trailer Sales of Memphis about purchasing a trailer of his own.

Christopher wasn’t convinced financing would be an option.

But he decided to make the call.

Northland Capital took Christopher’s finance application over the phone and quickly provided an approval, giving CARoss Transport the opportunity to move from renting equipment to investing in its own.

Today, Christopher operates a 2027 Timpte Super Hopper, giving his business dedicated equipment for its agricultural hauling operation.

CARoss Transport was able to:

  • Move from renting to owning a hopper trailer.
  • Finance a 2027 Timpte Super Hopper dedicated to the company’s agricultural hauling operation.
  • Keep more route revenue within the business by moving away from percentage-based equipment rental.

For Christopher, the biggest step may have simply been making the call. What initially felt out of reach became an opportunity to own the equipment his business relies on.

His experience is a reminder that financing isn’t always as far out of reach as it may seem. At
